Construction Spending Grows Significantly in Second Quarter

WASHINGTON (AP) Spending on construction ventures around the United States increased in July to the highest level seen since the beginning of the year, a promising sign for the economy's anticipated second-half rebound.

The Commerce Department reported Sept. 1 that the value of building projects under way clocked in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $879.8 billion in July, representing a modest 0.2 percent increase from June's level.More...

Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., held a private meeting with representatives from the American Rental Association (ARA) in Moline, IL., on Wednesday, Aug. 27, to discuss legislative issues important to the rental industry. Hastert is the third highest elected official in the United States.

ARA Chairman of the Board Dave Wilcox II, ARA CEO Christine Wehrman, and Terry Bryant, a rental store owner and veteran ARA member, met with Hastert, who is serving his ninth term as the Republican Congressman for Illinois' 14th Congressional District. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has selected Tidewater Skanska Inc. to build the Pinners Point Interchange, VDOT's largest single construction contract, in Portsmouth, VA. The road and bridge project will provide an interstate-type connection from Portsmouth's Western Freeway into the Portsmouth Marine Terminal and the Midtown Tunnel, which connects Norfolk and Portsmouth. (BBCI) as the managing partner and lead contractor on the SC 170 Widening Project, located west of the city of Beaufort. The $105 million design/build project involves the widening of 12.5 mi.
